I'm
currently living in Newtown, Sydney, Australia (yes, great coffee
and food). I also run a small business as a freelance graphic
designer.
My
artwork includes sculpture, painting and drawing. A passion for
nude figurative imagery forms the core of my work, but I admit
to an interest in Medieval plant lore and drawings (thus the mandrake
and rose imagery).
I
am thoroughly commited to figurative painting, drawing and sculpture.
Through intense realism and naturalistic poses I seek to show the
inherent grace of our everyday gestures. In my current work, the
nude is archetypal and enigmantic. Placed within ambiguous interiors
the figures internalise unknown dramas, transcending
contexts of time and space.
My
paintings, situated in the contemporary, are also deeply informed
by the rich tradition of Western academic painting. I combine academic
draftsmanship with contemporary technology, manipulating imagery
within Photoshop and Illustrator. These images are then transposed
onto canvas, Sources for imagery can include vintage photography,
photographs of models and friends, life drawing and internet image
searches. There is always a point at which the works develop a
seperate life - leaving the preparation as a barely noticeable
skeleton.
New
works: Paintings (with a few sculptures on the way) are generally
available for sale.
Portfolio: This
section shows an archive/overview of previous work. It's a good
place to see the variety of styles and mediums which I've
experimented with over the years.
